上海家庭

My au pair experience in china has been wonderful, first when I came I didn’t really knew what to expect. It was a leap of faith. I didn’t really know much of my host family or the kids that I would be with, but I decided to give it a chance and I have no regrets. The Chen’s have been more than welcoming. they have embraced me with my highs and lows and I’m more than greatful because I fell pampered and taken cared of everyday since I arrived. 

我在中国的互惠生活体验是非常美妙的，然而初到这里的时候并没有想到。之前对我将要相处的家庭和孩子了解甚少，但我决定试试，不会对这样的经历后悔。我的中国家庭非常非常的热情。他们欣赏我的优点，也接纳我的缺点。从我加入到这个家庭的第一天起，他们就很照顾我，宠我，对此我非常感激。

They have shared not only their culture, views and costumes but their home and love. It has become a place where I feel comfortable and happy. We all help each other and try to make everyday the best of it. Not speaking the same language can be a huge barrier to deal with simple daily life issues, so it is really important to be with opened minded people that are willing to embrace the task. The Chen’s are always willing to listen to me in the most basic ways, we take things with humor and that helps to overcome any misunderstandings that life may bring. My 3 little girls are more than just my host kids, they have become my partners in crime, my playmates, my sunshine and my sisters. I’m so lucky to have them. They are intrepid, funny, loving and playful. 

他们不仅与我分享不仅仅是他们的文化、观念、习俗，还有家的温暖和他们的爱。在这里让我感到快乐惬意。我们相互关心帮助，努力让每一天都过得美好。我们语言交流上有障碍，所以有一个开放的心态就更显得重要。我的中国家庭愿意倾听我的想法，我们彼此会用轻松幽默的方式交谈，这也帮助我化解了生活中遇到的一些误解。三个小姑娘不仅仅是我的host kids，我们是“犯罪同伙”，是玩伴，她们是我的“阳光”，是我的妹妹。遇到她们我是多么的幸运! 她们勇敢可爱，活泼开朗。

Everyday I try to make them learn something new in an interesting and enjoyable way and they are always exited to see what new task I’ll prepare for them in the future. They are clever, smart and just wonderful to be around. They try to keep me informed about what hapends around us even if I don’t speak the language so they have become my best allies during this journey, I can’t imagine having my Chinese experience without them. 

每天我都尝试让孩子们学到一些新的东西，而且是以一种有趣、享受的方式。她们总是很兴奋地期待着我接下来会给给她们布置什么样的新任务。她们很聪明，有她们在身边感觉很好。不管有什么新消息，她们都会分享给我，我们已经成为了“同盟”。如果这次经历没有了她们，我无法想象会变得怎样。

And of course there has been moments of doubt and loneliness but I think that has made me even more aware of the things I have at home and usually give for granted, there’s nothing that a positive attitude and hard work cant beat . I have a different perspective of society and life since I came to this beautiful country. In China it is not about how strong one person can be, Chinese know better when it comes to that, they believe that united, better things can be achieved and that includes family. 

当然，生活中也会有疑虑、孤独的瞬间，但这也让我更清楚地意识到我获得了什么，一个积极的态度和努力工作的状态可以克服所有难题。从我来到这个美丽的国度之后，我对社会、生活也有了不同的理解。在中国，他们知道依靠个人的力量能够完成很多事情，更重要的是他们讲团结，团结起来克服更多困难，这种团结，在每一个家庭中也有所体现。

I know my time here has been a great experience for them and for me and I will miss them when I’m gone. They will always have a place in my heart and the Chen’s have made china a place I’m happy to call home.

我想在这里的经历不论对于中国家庭还是自己来说，都是很美好的。回国以后我肯定会想念他们的。我会永远记得他们，是他们让我觉得中国对于我来说也想自己的家一样。

杭州家庭

I am three months into my Chinese au pairing experience and so far it has been brilliant! I arrived directly after graduating from university; from day one my family have been extremely welcoming making me feel completely at home. They even helped me to find a group of people to play football with, so now I play football almost every week. (Warning: Chinese people like to play football for a long time! We sometimes arrive at 8:00 and don’t leave until 11:00 but the atmosphere is great and the standard is quite good.) My family have also introduced me to lots of traditional Chinese dishes from “stinky tofu” to “chicken feet”. My favourite dish however, is the fresh sea or river shrimp we have with many of our meals - delicious! Over the autumn festival holiday we ate at various restaurants one day eating traditional Chinese hotpot (so tasty!) the next pizza and chicken wings.  My family, like many Chinese families, eat at a big round table which is a very sociable; especially when the whole extended family visits!

我来中国做互惠生已经有3个月了，到目前为止在这里的一切都非常美好！我从大学毕业后就直接来参加这个项目，从到中国家庭的第一天起就感觉他们非常的热情，让我觉得就像家里一样。他们甚至帮我联系到一群足球爱好者，我现在几乎每周都有机会跟他们一同踢球（注意：中国朋友每回踢球都会持续很久，踢了三个小时都还未尽兴，但是这样的氛围很好，大家踢球规则也都很规范。）我的家人还让我品尝了很多中国的传统美食，比如臭豆腐，鸡爪……不过我最喜欢的是新鲜的海虾或者河虾，非常好吃！这个月中秋节的时候，我们一家人去了不少餐馆吃饭，有一次体验了中国的火锅（太好吃了！）再有就是披萨和鸡翅。我的中国家庭和其他众多中国家庭一样，吃饭的时候一大家子会围坐在圆桌旁，这样很热闹，尤其是家里的其他亲戚们来做客的时候！

Thomas (my little Chinese brother) is a pleasure to teach English. He is very hardworking and eager to learn! We are currently working on his past tense and practicing those pesky irregular English verbs. We are also working our way through the first Harry Potter book in English. He has taught me a few things too including how to play Chinese chess. He currently leads 5-2 in our international Chinese chess tournament, but I was victorious in our last encounter so maybe a comeback is on the cards.

Thomas是我的中国弟弟，我非常愿意教他英语。他学习非常用功，也充满热情！我们目前在学习英语语法中的过去时，练习记忆那些烦人的不规则动词。同时我们也一起重温英文版的哈利波特。Thomas也教我学习了一些新东西，比如中国象棋。最近我们在玩国际象棋的时候他5比2赢了我，不过最后一局我是胜者，说不定下次十有八九就该我赢咯。

 Away from the family I have met many other lovely au pairs, bonding with them at weekly Mandarin classes and monthly culture classes. We use our off days to experience the beautiful city of Hangzhou from the scenic West Lake to the ultra-modern CBD buildings light show. We plan to take a trip to Shanghai next month. I hope my remaining time in China continues to be just as enjoyable! 

除了我的中国家人，我还遇到了不少其他有趣的互惠生们，每周两次汉语课以及每月一次文化活动让我们联系在一起。休息日的时候，我们一起游览充满魅力的杭州城，从秀美的西湖到超现代化的CBD灯光秀。下个月我们计划去一趟上海。希望接下来的时间我会一如既往的享受其中！

Being an Aupair is never easy, there are a lot of elements to take into account to be able to find a balance and fit in the family as naturally as possible. My experience as Jenny’s “older sister” has taught me a lot and I am grateful for this. At the beginning, I had to understand how to build a successful relationship with the family. This became easier and easier after the first week, as my host parents are very open-minded and warm-hearted. They have included me in family activities from the very first day: dinners, trips and even photoshoots all together are examples of what we have shared. 

当好一个互惠生不简单，需要考虑权衡的要素有很多，要尽可能自然地融入到中国家庭当中。做Jenny姐姐的经历教会我很多，对此我非常感谢。一开始的时候，我需要试着了解如果成功地与家庭建立关系。第一周过去之后似乎变得越来越容易，因为我的家爸家妈都是心态开放的人，也非常善良。从一开始他们就把我融入家庭的各种活动中，一起吃饭、郊游、拍照……

If the reason behind coming to China was experiencing the culture, I can confirm that I fully accomplished my aim, and this would not have been possible without my host family. Of course, there have been hard times too, especially when cultural differences arise. Communication has always been the best way to overcome such moments. Talking through problems as soon as possible and compromising have been the keys for the success of this experience, as well as being patience with my host kid. As a matter of fact, there have been times in which managing Jenny was not too simple, but as time has passed by I have learnt how to deal with her and use our time together as efficiently as possible. 

如果说来中国的原因是体验中国文化，那有一点很肯定的是我成功实现了这个目标，而这个愿望的达成主要是因为我的中国家庭。当然，我也有遇到困难的时候，尤其是在有文化冲突的情况下。沟通，是克服难题最好的办法。尽快的跟家人沟通问题，采取一些这种的办法是很关键的，对孩子要始终保持耐心。其实有几次跟Jenny的沟通不是很简单，不过逐渐的我试着学习怎样更好地跟她相处，把我们在一起的共同时间最大化利用。

Jenny is a clever and warm-hearted girl and she shows this by simple gestures of care towards people who are around her. This is how I managed to successfully build the precious relationship that we have now: she trusts me and sees me as a part of her family. Therefore, all the English activities are prepared based on her interests: reading, drawing, role-playing. Thanks to this, not only her English has improved, but she has also learnt even more how to share and care. All in all, my Chinese experience was positive, letting me enjoy China from a lot of perspectives.

Jenny很聪慧，很善良，对身边的人都很关心。我跟她之间积累的珍贵的感情。她信任我，视我为家人。所有的英语游戏、活动都是根据她的喜好准备的，比如阅读，画画，角色扮演等。当然，她的英语水平也得到了提高，同时她学会更多的还有如何分享、关心别人。总之，我的互惠生经历是非常棒的，非常享受在中国的这段经历与生活。
